We regulate the health professions in the country in aspects pertaining to Registration, Accreditation, Health Facilities Licensing, education and training, professional conduct and ethical behaviour, ensuring continuing professional development, and fostering compliance with healthcare standards.

REGISTRATION

Registration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia is a requirement for professional practice and it is also legal to keep all personal details and practice licenses up to date at all times.

THE HEALTH PROFESSIONS COUNCIL OF ZAMBIA

The government of the Republic of Zambia, through the Ministry of Health (MoH) spearheads the provision of health services in Zambia. It is the major provider of healthcare services to the general public. With the introduction of the Health Professions Act, the Council has been given the mandate to register and regulate all Health Facilities in Zambia, both public and private and Training Institutions teaching health sciences.

The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) is a statutory regulatory body established under the Health Professions Act No. 24 of 2009 of the Laws of Zambia. The functions of HPCZ as enshrined in the Act are as follows;

• Registration of health practitioners and regulation of their professional conduct (except for nurses who are registered and regulated under another Act);
• Licensing and regulation of all health facilities;
• Accreditation of healthcare services provided by health facilities; and the
• Recognition and approval of training programmes for health practitioners.

LIST OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES FOR LICENSURE EXAMINATIONS FEBRUARY-MARCH 2024

The list is hereby published and the candidates are advised to carefully note the following:

• Error Resolution Process- In case you identify any discrepancies in your details, you are advised to promptly email your queries to examinations@hpcz.org.zm for swift resolution. Please Do Not send to any other HPCZ email address, all LEX queries MUST be emailed to examinations@hpcz.org.zm, failure to comply with this will result in your query not being attended to.
• Examination Centre Clarification: The examination centre indicated on the list denotes the City where candidates will sit the theory component of the examination. For precise venue details, candidates are advised to refer to the timetable which will be provided. However, it is imperative to note that there will be no practical examinations conducted in Ndola for the following categories of candidates:
• Nutritionists
• Nutrition Technologists
• Advanced Paramedical Anaesthesia
• Clinical Anaesthesia Officers
• Radiation Therapists
• Clinical Technologists
• Mental Health and Clinical Psychiatry Officers
• Clinical Ophthalmic Officers
• Emergency Care Officers
• Optometry Technologists

Call for Applications to Sit for the October/November 2024 Health Professions Council of Zambia Licensure Examinations

Examination Details: The Theory Examinations are scheduled to run from to 1st October 2024, followed by the Practical Examinations in November 2024.

Location: The Examinations will be conducted exclusively in Lusaka and Ndola. Please be informed that there will be no examinations held in Livingstone. Candidates are required to select either Ndola or Lusaka as their preferred examination center.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible to apply for the licensure examination, candidates must fulfil the following criteria:

• Possess a health-related training qualification registrable by the Council from a recognized training institution.
• Hold a valid passport or National Registration Card.
• If trained abroad, the applicant must possess a Zambia Qualification Authority (ZAQA) recognition certificate.
• Must possess an indexing number issued by the Health Professions Council of Zambia.

Application Process:

• Complete the application online or through a form available on our official website: hpcz.org.zm or obtain it from any of our offices in Lusaka, Ndola, Livingstone, and Kasama.
• Pay the examination fee based on the category:
• Zambian: Diploma/Certificate – ZMW 1,100.00; Degree – ZMW 1,500.00
• Non-Zambian: Diploma/Certificate – ZMW 2,200.00; Degree – ZMW 3,000.00
• Email the scanned application to examinations@hpcz.org.zm or submit the physical application at any of our offices in Lusaka, Ndola, Livingstone, and Kasama.

Important Note: All applications must be submitted by 23rd September 2024. No extensions will be granted.

RENEWAL AND DOWNLOADING OF PRACTICING CERTIFICATES ONLINE TO ALL HEALTH PRACTITIONERS ON GOVERNMENT PMEC SYSTEM(ZAMBIANS AND NON-ZAMBIANS)

HPCZ would like to inform all Health Practitioners (Zambians and Non-Zambians) on the Government Payroll Management Establishment and Control (PMEC) System, that online renewal services is strictly for renewing, downloading and printing of practicing licences.

NOTICE TO ALL HEALTH PRACTITIONERS, HEALTH FACILITY MANAGERS, TRAINING INSTITUTIONS, STAKEHOLDERS AND GENERAL PUBLIC ON THE SUSPENSION OF FACE-TO-FACE INTERACTION WHEN CONDUCTING BUSINESS WITH THE HEALTH PROFESSIONS COUNCIL OF ZAMBIA

The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) is hereby informing all health practitioners, health facilities, training institutions, stakeholders and the general public that face-to face interaction with HPCZ staff at ALL its offices, when conducting all manner of business has with immediate effect from Monday 11th January 2021, been temporarily suspended until further notice. This measure has been inevitably necessitated in the wake of escalating second wave of Covid-19 cases as shared by the Ministry of Health (MoH) whose guidelines require action such as this one to curb the spread of the pandemic.

PUBLIC NOTICE

The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) wishes to inform the public that the following the closure of specific registers last year, HPCZ has no objection for any employer to engage practitioners from the listed registers below. Any institution requiring any expertise or skills of personnel in these fields, is at liberty to do so at their own terms, conditions and standards.

The following are the Registers being referred to:

1. Laboratory Scientists (BSC in Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry & Biotechnology).
2. Science Laboratory Technologists (Diploma in Laboratory Science).
3. Health Promotion Officers (BSC Environmental Education).
4. Health Promotion Technologists (Diploma in Environmental Education).

These professionals posses the necessary scientific qualifications and are expected to operate in the environment suitable for their training, including Health Facilities. However, it is important to note that their training falls outside the regulatory scope of the HPCZ mandate. Consequently, they are not subject to registration as Health Practitioners under the HPCZ.
